Septa, septal traces and septal filaments in the foraminiferal genus Nummulites Lamarck

Abstract. Several critical morphological features for the discrimination of Nummulites species are discussed and redefined, and three orders of septal filament are distinguished. A change in mode of growth, following the loss of the marginal cord in the adult stages of some species, is described.
